    Car Accidents and Car Insurance

    Article by Steve Crooks

There are currently 4500 non-fault car accidents in the UK every day and the cost of car insurance is rising at the fastest rate on record. Analysis by the AA suggests the annual rate of increase to insurance cover is now 14%.

Car insurers are facing rising costs and in an attempt to keep these costs down are offering a variety of different products. Not many car owners look into the small print when selecting their premiums from comparison sites on the internet and often go for the cheapest option and hope they will never need to claim. Should they be in the unfortunate position of having a car accident, they will soon discover that their policy has had a lot of the frills removed, such as door-to-door courtesy cars or adequate legal protection.

The provision of a courtesy car is a difficult area for car owners. The car is often vital to the user in order to get children to and from school, get to work or visit relatives. To do without a car for even a short period of time can cause the user considerable distress and for them to find out that they are either not entitled to a courtesy car, or have to pay an additional cost will hurt them, especially in a non-fault accident.

Careful consideration needs to be given to the type of courtesy car available. The provision of the courtesy car will often fall to the repairer and not the insurance company and this can also lead to complications with most cars being small economical run arounds such as a VW Polo or Vauxhall Corsa. These are better than nothing, but if you have a family of 5 or over to ferry about, then this will not be adequate and the user will often have to find a compromise with the insurer or repairer to offer a sensible replacement.

Those who are in the position to drive a car in the group 20 insurance band, such as a Lamborghini or Aston Martin will feel disappointed to find that while their super car is being fixed following a car accident, they are required to get from A to B in a Vauxhall Corsa. If the accident is a non fault, then one option is to look at car accident hire companies that offer a replacement super car until their own car is repaired and returned.

The Voluntary Excess is also an area in which car insurers are able to tweak the cover. Most insurers will allow you to pay some of the costs of the repair and this will be higher for the cheaper insurance options. The Voluntary excess is additional to the Compulsory Excess that the car insurer will have added to the policy.

It is also worth checking out the level of cover offered when it comes to personal possessions. Personal possessions are all the item in the car, such as clothes, laptops, CDs, bags etc. Most car owners assume that the contents of the car are insured along with the car itself, but this is often not the case.

Check out the level of injury and medical cover offered. Medical expenses and injury cover are offered on top of the emergency treatment cover, which all car insurers must provide as part of their policies. Expenses are claimed to help with medical bills that are caused by the accident and can vary in amount. Injury cover will be the level of compensation that is offered for a serious car accident and results in significant trauma, such as the loss of sight, or a limb.

In all, when shopping around for insurance quotes, spend a little time looking at the small print detailing the cover. Imagine yourself in the positioning of having to claim and be without a car and ask yourself if the cheapest policy is the one to go for.

Tips When Buying Insurance On Your Sports Car

    Article by Gregg Hall

Insuring a sports car can be a relatively expensive proposition. Sports cars generally require higher premiums than other automobile types, and the sports car owner can expect some sticker shock when learning just how much it costs to insure a high performance vehicle. Additionally, most sports car owners want full-featured coverage for their prized possessions. Although insuring a high-end sports care will never be price competitive with insuring a traditional family sedan, there are a few things sports car owners can investigate in order to save on their insurance bills. Following these four tips, for instance, can help a sports car owner keep his or her insurance premiums lower without forcing any compromise in coverage levels.

Initially, one should check to see if any organizational memberships might reduce your insurance rate. Often, membership in national organizations can reduce your costs. Educators, government employees, labor union members and others are often eligible for discount rates but never get them because they don’t realize it. Always ask your agent if there are any group memberships that can bring your cost down.

Specifically, membership in a sports car club can have a favorable impact of the size of your premium. Insurance companies often offer a reduced premium rate to particular groups of sports car owners in hopes of securing a large volume of customers.

Second, one should always conduct price comparisons. It doesn’t take long to call other insurance providers and determine their rates to insure your sports car. You may find an unexpected bargain from an unlikely source, so it always pays to fully investigate your options. There are services available that will compare rates between multiple insurance providers; these can be a great place to start your price shopping. However, you may benefit from placing direct calls to various agents representing different insurers. Often, an agent, armed with the unique information you can provide, may be able to come up with a cost-saving insurance plan for your sports car.

Third, you may benefit by bringing multiple policies to the same agent. Many insurance companies can reduce the cost of your sports car’s insurance if you also using them for health, life, homeowners or renter’s insurance. Simply having all of your vehicles insured by the same agent can reduce your premium costs. You can often save a considerable sum by keeping as much of your insurance business as possible “under one roof.” The savings may not be directly applied to your sports car automobile insurance. Instead you may find cost savings applied to another policy as a byproduct of bringing all of your business to the same agent.

Finally, ask your agent about special programs or courses that can reduce your insurance premium costs without sacrificing appropriate coverage. For instance, some companies offer discounts for those willing to take online mini-courses on defensive driving. If a student is driving a car, there may be reduced premiums offered for good grades. Some companies will offer to reduce your rate after a specified length of time if you remain accident-free. Any program of this sort might be a helpful means of decreasing the cost of your sports car insurance coverage.

It is essential to carry adequate insurance for your sports car. Skimping on coverage can hold your costs down, but may leave you inadequately protected. Alternatively, smart insurance shopping and an exploration of cost-saving options may allow you to afford sufficient coverage for your sports car at a rate far lower than you might have expected.

By remembering to ask for group specials, comparison shop, consider taking all of your business to one agent, and inquiring about special programs that might be a good fit, you can conceivably save a surprising sum on your sports car insurance coverage.

Sports Cars question by Thomas B: Why would insurance be so high on sports cars for new drivers if its only a mustang GT?
I could understand a ferari maybe because its really fast and stuff and your more vulnerable to accidents.

But why so much for a sports car like a mustang? They arent that fast unless you beef then up with different performance parts.

    Sports Cars best answer:

    Answer by bodny85
because car insurance is the biggest joke in america dude. I have a Nissan 240sx its a 4 cylinder, and I love it but I pay $ 2000 per year for insurance because it is a “sports coupe”. A mustang GT has a V8, and stats show that kids who play with V8′s in their first cars are likely to kill someone.
